Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Living: Kitchen & Pool Addition

A seamless addition that connects kitchen, pool, and carport. Designed to maximize indoor-outdoor living while blending with the home’s existing 1920's character.

This project brings together three major elements of daily living: the kitchen, the pool, and the carport. The design goal was to create a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces while keeping the character of the existing home intact. We wanted to not lose any of the charm and original character of the home on the street front while also creating something totally new and modern for the kitchen addition at the back. The addition extends the heart of the home into the landscape, making it easier for the family to gather in a setting that feels open and welcoming.

The new kitchen layout improves functionality while orienting views toward the pool and surrounding landscape. A covered carport was designed to provide convenience and shelter while still feeling connected to the larger composition. The pool deck ties these spaces together, offering a central hub for gatherings and everyday living.

Attention was given to how the addition integrates with the home’s structure and the site. Garden beds, outdoor circulation, and natural light were all considered as part of the design strategy. The garden beds allow us to bring nature close to the home. The striking gable allows for more daylight to pour into the kitchen while also protecting the deck. The result is an addition that feels cohesive and balanced, offering modern amenities without losing the warmth and character of the original home.

Many of these photos were taken during the construction process. The home was completed in 2023.
