Windows and Bench. The Bench covers the air ducts and allows for a great place to sit and take in the view.
The new stair connecting the existing house to the new addition has saw tooth shelving to allow for display of art work.
Perched on a hillside with a sweeping view, this art and ceramic studio was imagined as a place where creativity could expand without boundaries. The main studio is a light-filled, open space that is adaptable for painting, sculpting, or any new pursuit that inspiration demands. At the far end, the kiln room quietly hums with its own energy, positioned away from the main house for safety and focus.
The design flows beyond a single room. Vertical circulation links the main-floor kitchen, split-level library, and basement, creating a seamless connection through the home. A tranquil meditation room offers a pause between moments of making, while a generous patio deck invites creativity into the open air.
As construction unfolds, some of the photos have been captured by onsite contractor Jake Oxnard. Soon, the exterior will be wrapped in blue glazed terracotta shingles, echoing the ceramics crafted inside and rooting the building in its hillside setting. I look forward to the day this retreat is filled with the sights, sounds, and spirit of creation.
